Job Title: Family Law Associate
The Associate Attorney will join busy Family Court practice with nearly three decades of experience. The primary responsibility of this position is courtroom representation, case preparation, and client advocacy under the supervision and mentorship of the managing attorney. The associate will be trained to independently handle matters in Family Court while maintaining the firm’s commitment to professionalism, efficiency, and dispute resolution.
Initial Responsibilities (First 0–3 Months):
Appear on behalf of clients in non-contested and procedural Family Court matters, including but not limited to status conferences, consent orders, and uncontested divorces/agreements; Manage docket calls and routine hearings as assigned; Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, proposed orders, and discovery requests; Review case files, affidavits, financial declarations, and supporting exhibits; Communicate with clients regarding case status, required documents, and hearing preparation; Conduct research on South Carolina statutes, rules, and case law relevant to Family Court matters.
Progressive Responsibilities (After Approximately 3 Months, With Guidance)
Appear in contested temporary hearings and rule-to-show-cause matters; Present argument, examine witnesses, and introduce evidence under supervision as needed; Represent clients in mediations and settlement conferences; Prepare mediation statements and negotiate resolutions consistent with client objectives; Conduct depositions; Manage discovery disputes and motions to compel.

Maintain regular communication with clients; Provide clear guidance on expectations, risks, and potential outcomes; Professional Development
Participate in ongoing mentoring and training in Family Court practice; Attend CLE programs as directed.
