Job Title: Associate Attorney- Family Law

Growing family law firm in Charleston (Summerville) area seeking full-time Associate Attorney.

Duties: Meeting with Managing Attorney and staff to develop case strategy, maintain contact with assigned clients (answering questions or elevating to Managing Attorney; assisting with paperwork; updating clients on case status), drafting initial pleadings, affidavits, correspondence, settlement agreements, and other documents, preparing and responding to discovery, assist in preparation for depositions and trials, and attending court appearances, mediations, client meetings, and the like.

Base salary based on experience and skills and commensurate with opportunities within the community. Firm will cover professional dues, malpractice insurance, CLE’s, and other expenses (at Firm’s discretion) for the Associate. Generous paid holidays and strong commitment to work/life balance. Participation in retirement plan with employer matching also available (after one year) and health insurance stipend.

Hiring criteria

JD from an accredited law school is required, as well as a valid driver’s license and license to practice law in SC. Completion of Rule 403 requirements and experience in family law is strongly preferred (or 1-3 years litigation experience). Seeking a poised, self-motivated, practical person with the ability to learn quickly and work independently. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, as this area of law requires a strong balance of empathy and compassion with assertiveness and adversarial skill.
