Job Title: Assistant Public Defender

ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER: The Assistant Public Defender will handle all General Session charges, will provide legal services to indigent defendants who are facing the possibility of jail, will provide legal assistance to assigned clients, answering questions and providing information in person and via calls.

Hiring criteria

Minimum Requirements:
• A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
• Member of the South Carolina Bar
• Ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:
• Must have a good attitude, common sense and an eagerness to handle a variety of cases
• Must be able to work well with a team including legal assistants, investigators, and other co-workers
• Must be organized and be able to work independently in meeting deadlines
• Must have criminal court experience or a strong desire to practice criminal defense
• Must be able to utilize and learn case management software
• Requires excellent written and oral advocacy skills
